What is baby massage?

Baby massage has been something that has been used in many other cultures for thousands of years, and now Western culture has begun to use it themselves. Now in Perth, baby massage is a must for parents, to learn to bond and spend time with their baby.

Babies can feel touch as early as when your 8 weeks pregnant and will be the first sense stimulated when being born.  Therefore touch is the most important of the 5 senses. As more research is being done, it is being proven that healthy touch during a baby's life plays an important role in their social and physical development (Ardiel & Rankin, 2010). At the end of the day, touch is a baby's first language.

Our sessions usually run in a group setting but our Infant Massage Australia accredited educators are also more than happy to facilitate a more intimate one-to-one session. Our sessions are father-friendly too. During our sessions, you will massage your baby to connect on an emotional and physical level. The massage will help nurture and build your relationship with your new baby.

Massaging your baby has many other benefits including :

  • It is fun and enjoyable for both baby and parent
  • Helps both baby and parent to relax
  • Encourages baby to sleep deeper and longer
  • Improves colic and constipation and calms irritable babies
  • Increases the immune system of a baby
  • Boosts a baby’s Serotonin levels which is known to reduce the risk of SIDS
  • Establishes a close, loving communication and relationship with your baby
  • Provides opportunity for fathers to spend quality time with their babies
  • Strokes can be adapted for use on babies and children with special needs to help them reach their potential
  • Massage can also be adapted for use with children of all ages. Babies and children who are massaged regularly are more likely to have a secure relationship with parents and so tend to have better relationships with others, both as children and adults
  • Benefits flow onto the next generation as parents tend to parent as they themselves were parented
  • and many other health and emotional benefits.

What is child massage?

Our child massage classes run in schools in a classroom setting. The idea of child massage is to encourage children to massage one another in a controlled environment.
